Valentine ACEO Card

The other day I was cleaning my bedroom and I came across my little drawing pad. As I thumb though it I came across two original drawing which later I use as a ACEO card.  I had never painted a ACEO card and did not know where to start.

Well it was Feb. and so I wanted to paint some hearts but in a Folk Art style so this is the drawing that I came up with...I call this one Music and Love

Next I tried my hand at painting a ACEO Card with Acrylic paint, clitter and gel pen also.

Next I drew this 2nd ACEO card which I painted in a folk art style. I was working on my Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter painting when I came across this idea of drawing a heart tree like the queen of heart. That night I heard my dog barking and so when I went to the window I saw an old black cat looking up at the moon and that gave me the idea for the painting.

This ACEO painting is the size of a business card 2"x3" and is painted with Acrylic paint and seal with an Acrylic spray.  I call this one Love at Moonlight.

If y'all would like to see more of my ACEO work, go too: http://CreationbyLadybug.etsy.com

All of my ACEO card is for sale.

Well until next time, Happy Creating and God Bless

Historic Landmark Friends of the Adobes

As I had said in a later post hubby and I went on vacation back in Oct 2012.  I had never been to Paso Robles or San Luis Obispo and had want to go there for so long, so we pick a date for our vacation, load up the RV and away we went.

On our trips hubby dose his best to take me to the CA. Mission for it is my goal to paint all 21 Missions someday. So with this trip we saw 3 more Missions (San Luis Obispo Mission, Mission San Miguel Archangel and Mission San Antonio) that I can mark off my list plus we also saw one Ca. National Historic Landmark call "Friends of the Adobes/Rios Caledonia Adobe" and that is what I want to talk about.

I am a very friend person and I can talk a blue streak when I want too but when it come to talking about my art work that is when I tend to clam up so it was a BIG SURPRISE to me that when hubby and I went into the adobe gift shop and as I look around I saw that there was no items of the Adobe for sell. We found out the gift shop ran on commission items only.

So before I knew what I was saying, I ask the gift shop lady if she wouldn't  mind if I did a painting of the Adobe and sold prints, writing card, bookmarks, and other small items in the gift shop. To my surprise she said yes, that she would love that, for she has been wanting items of the Adobe in the gift shop for a long time.

We agree that I would come up with something and this was all great news until I came home put all my pictures on my computer and after a couple of days later my computer crash and I was dead in the water. So I sent my computer out to be fix and low and be hold I got really ill which set me back on my goal for the painting. But on Jan 3rd I was just starting to feel better so I drew out the "Rios Caledonia Adobe" in my sketch book and on the 4th of Jan I trace the drawing on tracing paper to place on my 12"x24" canvas as y'all can see here in this picture.

(I well be posting pictures of the different stages of the painting)

Here are 3 of the pictures that I took of the Adobe.  As y'all can see I am pretty much looking up at the Adobe and gift because back in 1915 the California  State Highway came in and plow down a portion of the original stage coach dirt road to paved in the first two lane 101 Highway in 1923 and the Highway was use until 1931.

On the 7th of Jan I started to lay the foundation color to the "Rios Caledonia Adobe" but if ya look off to the left y'all will see where my grandson try to help me paint. That day I found out that I well only be able to paint when he is napping. This is going to cut my time in painting down to
a couple of hours a day.

Here I have lay the foundation color of the door, roof and have added a suggestion of the mud brick that are expose.

In this painting I have added the post and some more glazing to the painting.

In this painting I was not satisfied with the sky so I added more clouds and I also work on the windows and door as well. Plus I work on straighten out the building too.

Here I added the foundation color to the tile roof, the lattice, planters and the  bench with a blanket.

I also now have added the sidewalk, a bush, a tree limb, the tile to the roof,  the plants in the planters and have added color to the blanket that sit a bench.

And here is the finish product. I added the distant mountain, more bushes, the dirt walk way and the main bush that climbs the hill.

Now here is a little history about the Adobe: Note all info is taken from
RIOS-CALEDONIA ADOBE self guide tour handout.

The adobe was built in 1835, under the supervision of the Petronilo Rios, with Indian labor. The old adobe served as a stagecoach stop on the old mission trail between San Francisco and Los Angeles and was a hotel and tavern
from 1868-1885.

In 1886-the adobe was used as a dress makers shop and tailor shop;  1887-schoolhouse; 1889-1895 the adobe was also used as a mattress factory, upholstery shop, post office, and jail. 1895-1902 The adobe served as residence for the Telford family who operating a dairy farm. 1903 -1910 the Nygren families live in the adobe also.

From 1911- 1923 the RIOS-CALEDONIA ADOBE was abandon.

1923 - The  RIOS-CALEDONIA ADOBE was sold to Mr. Charles Dorries who had plans to restore the building and open to the public.

1964 - The  RIOS-CALEDONIA ADOBE was purchased by the  San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors to restore and open to the public.

1968 - The Friends of the Adobes was formed

1978- RIOS-CALEDONIA ADOBE Museum and Gift shop open to the
public and is run by the Friends of the Adobes.

Well until next time, Happy Creating and God bless

Dose history repeats it self?

Well it is a new year and a new painting on my easel. In 2012 I was ill for about two months and did not want to do much art let a lone anything else. But now that I am in recovery Yay!!!!! I can't wait to get back to my art work. So now it is a new year and a new painting that I am itching to do and this is why...

When I went on vacation with hubby back in the late Oct 2012 we went to see the sights in Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, San Miguel and Jolon, Ca. National Historic Landmark call "Friends of the Adobes".

As we walk around the grounds of the "Friends of the Adobes" I talk to a lady name Joyce Herman who ran the gift shop.  I notice that she did not have any prints or items of the Adobe for sell. So before I knew what I was saying, I ask her if she would not mind if I painted the Adobe and sold prints and other items in the gift shop. To my surprise she said yes that she would love that, for she has been wanting items of the Adobe in the gift.

So with a new found spirit when hubby and I went to visit Mission San Antonio in Jolon, Ca. we walk the ground of the Mission and went into the gift shop. as we looked around the gift shop I ask the Mission gift worker on how I could I get my art work in the Mission gift shop and the Mission gift worker told me that the lady I would need to talk too was out for the day and she gave me the lady's business card. She also told me that it would be best for me to bring in some of my work so that I would have a better change to get my work into the Mission as well.

This was all great news until I came home and got sick. The set back hurt my spirit but with a new year it's a new start and what I found so far is a budding artist in the family. This is what happen...

On Jan 3rd I drew out the "Friends of the Adobes" in my sketch book and on the 4th of Jan I trace the drawing on tracing paper to place on my 12"x24" canvas.

On the 7th of Jan I started to paint the "Friends of the Adobes" but found my little grandson who is 21 months old standing my by side with a bottle of paint in his hand. For he wanted to help me paint and I let him at first but then I had to stop him because he was rubbing the pencil drawing almost off the canvas.

Did this stop him No! He would go and get other tub of paint or a paint brush and continue to help me paint.

(As you can see here my grandson has rub the pencil drawing almost off the canvas.)

As I watch my grandson with my canvas I had to sit back and a flood of memories came rushing back to me when I was 2 or 3 years old and I was in my grandma's kitchen playing on the kitchen floor while my grandma taught my mom how to cook Mexican food (my mom is from Louisiana). I can remember going to the kitchen counter and standing up on my tip toes trying to reach the top of the kitchen counter where I knew my grandma kept little stub of pencils and small pieces of paper. I would get these items and, well I thought I was creating works of art. Ha-Ha from those little stub of pencils and small pieces of paper started a love for art started to grow and I knew even then that I wanted to be an artist.

As I sat there thinking and remembering about my past I thought about my grandson and what is going though his mind at that moment. So I wound up putting my painting away and I found an old painting that I never finish and so I place it on my big easel and gave him his own paint and paint brush as well and told him that he could paint. Boy was he a happy camper.

As I look at my grandson I can't help but think if he will follow in his Great-Great-Great- Uncle and my own foot step as an artist. Only time well tell...

Well until next time, Happy Creating

Will during the month of Dec I had been work on Doggie Ornaments for customers. My friend Connie had ask me this past summer to create a doggie ornaments for her daughter for Christmas.

She told me to take my time for she did not want it until Dec. So that is what I did, I took my time but when Dec came I still was not feeling well but I need to finish the ornament.

So somewhere I mustered up the strength, finish the ornament and sent her a pic so that see could see it and tell me if I need to make any changes.

She fell in love with the ornament and so did her office staff. From this one pic leaded me to create more ornament for Christmas.

The Last Season Shows

On Nov 9th 2012 I came down sick but I knew that I had to do the Art on State Street Art Show in Redlands, Ca. late Nov, so I did my best to get myself well. So I thought...

On Sun Nov 18, I got down to State Street at 6:30 am and set up. The weather was not the best that day for it drizzles in the morning and then all day it got cloudy then sunny, then cloudy again.

I spent the hold day talking to artist, laughing and try to make a bad day good. But by the end of the day my artist friend Jeff Seal was the only one of us who sold that day. And for him, his sell just broke even with the booth cost and lunch.

Would I do this show again Yes for I feel the with the election just pasting people are holding onto their money for they are waiting to see what the old elected president is going to do.

The next day I woke up and found that I did not have a voice, I guess my voice thought that it would be a good time to take a vacation and I have still had other show to do next week…

Will next week came and I hate to say this but I had to walk away from the Yucaipa Valley Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Yucaipa Christian Church Holiday Boutique and Christmas Tree Lighting due to my voice still on vacation and I was starting to not feel well again. Boy did that show hurt my pocket book for I could not get my money back plus I had to donate a $35.00 item to the show as well…

So I rested all that week so that I could do the last show of the season for me. This one was a juried show with the YMCA of the East Valley 2012 Holiday Art and Gift Boutique. We as vendors had to pay our booth fee plus give 20% of our sales to the YMCA of the East Valley as a fundraiser and in return we got a free morning pastry but we had to pay for our coffee. One free lunch that look like a 6” day old subway, chips and water all in a brown paper bag. The great news was that we got to set up the day before which was a blessing but I knew I needed to be in bed for I was coming down with a running nose, coughing and my voice was half way back but I could pull it off (which I did) as allergies.

Come Saturday Morning I was dress and ready for the day but my body kept crying out “I want to go home and back to bed”…
When I got to my booth I had found that I was place with resells ladies. I am an artist and when I looked to the right, left, front and back of me there were all resell vendors. Now keep in mind there were other artist in the building but why did I get put between resells I don’t know but they were the best ladies, for they made me laugh thought out the day and they told me what shows to do and what shows not to do… Net Working, I love it!

Again I watch people hold onto their money tight. They were not willing to part with it unless it was a $5-$10 dollar item or food.

It seems from listening to a lot of vendors that last year they made more money from this show than this year. All I know is for me it was a bust plus the weather was bad, the foot traffic was bad and they had way too many vendors in the building (77 was the count). Will I do this show again? I will have to think long and hard on that one…

As for me on Dec 10 I hate to say it but I am still under the weather.

Until next time Happy Creating

Y'all don't have to stick to a standard size painting

I hope everyone Christmas and New Year was a bless one. Mine Christmas was the greatest for I got the best Christmas gift ever, for my hubby got to come home for Christmas. If y'all go to my FB page J.D. Fields Art Work by Lady Bug and scroll  down a bit you will see a video of how he surprise me.

But as I had wrote earlier I will be posting some late blogs to catch up and I would like to start with other Oct blog. This one is of a ACEO card that I had did for a mini show but did not get to enter due to the fact that I went on vacation with hubby.

I want to do a ACEO painting but not the standard size. So I came up with this design.

(Sorry for the pic being on its side it seem that I can't get the pic to turn right side up.)

As ya can see I have painted the 2" x 4" inside of the ACEO with a sun set in the ocean. I then painted a 1" blue border around the hold painting. I then took a 5"x7"canvas board and painted it black which I then glue the ACEO painting too. I still kept to the guide line of a mini painting which I created something w. So just remember that y'all don't have to stick to a standard size painting but be creative and see were your imagination leads ya.

Until next time Happy Creating
