On the Road Again!

Ever since I was a small child I have love to travel and when I grew up and started a family that seems to stop for a while. But then that desire came back when I had seen on TV an RV special on Vintage Tear Drops and how they would dress them up with  a theme to make them their own. I had told hubby that I what to start traveling again but the kicker was I wanted a Vintage Tear Drops. Hubby thought that I was crazy but little did I know that he went looking for one. I am told that when he found just the right one for me to be creative with, he found out really quickly that his shoulders were too big to get them though the narrow door so I had to settle for a 5th wheel. I was a little disappointed but so found out the 5th wheel was the better chose for being an artist I tend to pack a small studio with me to paint while we are on the road.

On one of hubby work trip to Upper California he came across a campground with a vintage tear drops all dress up just like the ones I saw on the TV show. He took a pic and brought it home and when I saw it I knew I had to paint it.

This painting was created from a love that I have for tear drop trailers.

This is a 5X7 acrylic painting on canvas board. I have sealed it with an acrylic spray and have created this paining to be used for gift cards that I am planning on selling on at art show and on line.

Sleepy Man in the Moon

The other day I was in bed sicker than a dog, as I laying in bed looking out my window at the moon and the sky I started to remember all the stories that were told to me about the Man in the Moon and the Moon be make out of cheese and then it hit me or I should say my creative juices began to flow and I thought of the Man in the Moon looking down at all of us sleeping with all the stars dancing in the night sky so I sketch what I thought the Man in the Moon would look like.

This painting is an acrylic 11X14 box wrap/stretch canvas painted in a folk art style. I am planning on placing this painting in my web site http://j-d-fields-.fineartamerica.com and my Etsy http://CreationbyLadybug.etsy.com next week .

WOW it ready dose work!!!!!

If you are like me y’all would rather paint than sit and really give ur brushes a good cleaning. In my early years as an artist and crafter I would spend what seem like hours cleaning and reshaping my brushes. But now that I work in acrylic I am a little ruff with them and spend every little time clean my brushes. So then have some miles on them and a lot of paint build up in the bristles. I was planning on throwing away these brushes but I have to say that I really did not want to do that only because they are apart of my hand now.

What to do?

Well a few months ago I was reading a blog by who I can not remember but they gave a little side note about how Murphy's Oil Soap real can clean brushes.

I put this on the back burner of my mind but it keep creeping up every now and then so before I would blog about it I what’d to test it out for my self. So a week of so ago while I was at the super market I pick me up a bottle of Murphy's Oil Soap and try it out.

Here is what I did…

1. Found an old glass jar with a lid

2. Place about two – three inches of water in the jar

3. Place about other three –four inches of Murphy's Oil Soap in the jar with the water

4. Place paint bushes in the jar and let set for 24 hrs to 36 hrs depending on how bad ur brushes are. (Mind was bad)

5. Then I set the jar where know one would mess with it.

6. When ready to clean I place a glove on my hand or ya can use a large toy tennis ball such as ya might buy for a dog toy. Y’all can use this to scrub ur brushes in instead of ur hand. Cut the tennis ball in half, and place the half ball in the palm of ur hand, Note: The ball has the same shape as your cupped hand. Now scrub ur brushes in the ball to clean…y’all will fine that the half tennis ball is a lot more durable. Plus, the paint dissolved (Oil or Acrylic) won't go into ur skin and get into ur body.

As I clean my brushes I found that it really dose work and it also condition you brushes as will. But one thing y’all will fine out that the longer the metal part of ur brushes stay in Murphy's Oil Soap it may turn black. That is the only draw back that I have found so far.

So don’t be like me but take a little time after each painting and clean ur brushes with a little Murphy's Oil Soap. Ur brushes with love ya for it.

Would I do this show again?

Well I told y’all that I would write about the 1st Annual Edward Dean Museum Art Show in Cherry Valley, Ca.

It was a BIG HIT!

They had half of the show in doors and the other half out doors. I was one of the lucky one to have been place indoors for I had paid my registration early. I was so glad for that because two days before it had rain day and the day of the show it was in the med 90’s with humidity as well. (I don’t do humidity any more)

Inside we all got an 8-foot table and two chairs and the outdoor vendors got a 12X12 spot plus art the end of the show the Museum 10% of the sale. Not bad…

As I said I was inside and I set up my table with small works of art, prints, some eggery and my son writing pens. The artist next to me was a hoot, she kept me laughing all day long and I got to net work with other artist (which is always a plus) and I did a little bit of work for VisionQuest as well.
I was told for being the Museum 1st Annual Art show and Sales (now remember this show was on a Sunday) we had over 400 people come though. My son sold some of his pen and I sold some of my prints which was not bad. The vendors out side did fair them selves. I have found that people are still not ready to part with their money to by large original works of art but they will buy prints, cards, bookmakers, cups, etc of the printed art work.
I also found that most of the customers were buying prints, small works of art, etc for the grandmother, Aunt, or a sick friend and they felt that this would help cheer them up.
Over all the show was a good one and I met some new artist friends to net work with. Would I do this show again YES!!!
Will I hope y’all are staying cool and dry in the funny summer year.

Would I recommend this show???

Howdy all,
This weekend I went to the 3rd annual Idyllwild Lemon Lily Festival at Idyllwild Nature Center in So CA this past Saturday.

I had ask my hubby to take me up the what I thought was a Art Show at the Idyllwild Lemon Lily Festival but to my dismays we made the most scariest drive of my life up what I thought was a hill which turn out to be a mountain. Earlier my hubby told me that I would not like the drive because of the long drive and curves. I really did not know what he was talking about but soon learn that I would not be making that drive ever again.  The curves are really bad and if y’all are afraid of heights like I am than I would not recommend the drive.
Now y’all mite be asking ur self “J.D. why did you go up there if y’all don’t like heights? Well I went up there for two reasons. One is that I am looking for art show to be in and two I am also seeing if these art show would be one that I would have recommend to the Art Assoc and VisionQuest artist.
Well after reaching the top of the mountain hubby and I looked for the Nature Center.  When we found it we had to pay $3.00 person to park ur car ,which I thought was not bad, after we park we walked to the Festival but I must say that I was a little disappointed though for they had advertise it as an “Festival that would focus on nature, education (of nature), ART and music. What we found was nature, education (of nature) but the Festival was more of a craft show with a few artists in the mix. But with time and car sickness all was not lost for we had a great time and I met some awesome artists and we will be net working together on some new show. So over all it was not a bust and I do recommend the Idyllwild Lemon Lily Festival to all crafters. For more event information check out their website at www.rivcoparks.org

The San Juan Capistrano Mission - Plus

Well like I said early this week here is the finish acrylic painting that I gave y’all a sneak peak of “The San Juan Capistrano Mission Arches.” This is a “5X”5 miniatures box stretched canvas wrap that I painted on all 4 side…

This is the left side finish

This is the right side finish and the top is of the sky, the bottom is the same color as the floor

And is the front of the finish painting
Plus while hubby and I were on a little vacation for a few days I got to sit down and just paint without any interruption. This one is also an acrylic “5X”5 miniatures box stretched canvas wrap of "San Juan Capistrano Mission Gardens."
Sorry that I did not post a step by step of this painting but when I started painting I just got in the zone and away I went.
Now I am working on other acrylic painting of an 11X14 stretched canvas of an 1953-54 Flatbed Chevy truck.
Until next time

Getting ready 4 an art show @ the Edward -Dean Museum

Howdy all,
                 I am back from a little get away with hubby and now I’ am getting ready for an art show at the Edward -Dean Museum this Sunday. I normally try not to do art show on Sunday but my friend Sharon Rachal owner Rachal Art Center in Yucaipa, Ca has started the Edward -Dean Museum 1st Annual Art Show and Sale (we must work on a new name for next year) and I feel that I need to go and support the show since I was the one who planted the thought in her mind in the first place. {.*u*.}

The art show will be held inside and out on the museum grounds and I have opted for the inside of the Kay Building under cool air. (Momma did not raise no fool it is hot up here).

I am going to be bring some of my painting from 2”X3”, 5”X5” 5X7, 8X10, 11X14, photo prints of some of my work, my eggery, ornaments and the list goes on.

So if you are looking for the perfect gift for mom, dad, sister, brother, kids, etc. Or shopping early to beat the holiday season rush, than why not give them an original art work, the gift that keeps on giving for many years to come

Here is the place I and my fellow artist will be…

Also if you live in the San Bernardino or Riverside country and are interested in learning how to paint miniatures or ACEO art cards or what if you would like to learn how to paint ornaments or even both. I am hold classes for beginners at Vision Quest Art Gallery in Yucaipa and registration is required.
If interested u can e-mail me at pals4ever98@hotmail.com
  Until next time ~ J.D.
